Actor Yamazaki Kento appeared at the stage greeting to celebrate the completion of his starring movie, "Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison" (directed by Katagiri Kenji, scheduled for release on March 13th), held in Tokyo on February 25th. Yamazaki said of the new movie, "It's just so much more powerful!" He continued confidently, "The staff and cast all had love and respect for the original work, and they came up with all sorts of ideas one by one, and this movie was made possible. You could even say that all the previous movies and dramas were made for this, and it's a movie that can be said to be the culmination of 'Golden Kamuy'!"
When asked about the highlights of the film, Yamazaki said, "Golden Kamuy has action, comedy, gourmet food, and historical romance; it's packed with everything like a 'hodgepodge western,' so I hope everyone enjoys it."
Also attending the stage greeting were Yamada Anna, Maeda Go Atsuo, Yamoto Yuma, Tamaki Hiroshi, Tachi Hiroshi, Otani Ryohei, Kudo Asuka, Yanagi Shuntaro, Inaba Tomo, Kitamura Kazuki, Ikeuchi Hiroyuki, Takahashi Maryjun, Wada Satoshihiro, Sugimoto Tetta, Iura Arata, and director Katagiri.
"Golden Kamuy" is based on the manga of the same name by Satoru Noda, which has sold over 30 million copies. Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, the story depicts a survival battle in the wilderness, with a cast of eccentric characters fighting for the return of a soldier, Saichi Sugimoto, and Anna Yamada playing the Ainu girl Asirpa. The live-action film, released in January 2024, was a hit, grossing over 3 billion yen, and a sequel, "Serial Drama W Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner," began airing on WOWOW in October of the same year.
The second film, "Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison," is set in Abashiri Prison, where "Nopperabo," the man who knows all the mysteries, is incarcerated. A three-way battle unfolds between Sugimoto and his group, the Shinsengumi's "Demon Vice-Commander" Toshizo Hijikata's faction (played by Tate), and the 7th Division led by Lieutenant Tsurumi (played by Tamaki).
