It has been revealed that the second chapter of the popular Gundam anime series, "Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway's Flash" (directed by Murase Shukou), "Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway's Flash: Circe's Witch," has grossed over 2 billion yen in the 22 days since its release on January 30th. The number of moviegoers has exceeded 1.2 million. It is now in sight that it will surpass the first chapter, which was released in June 2021 and grossed approximately 2.23 billion yen.
The Gundam series' box office revenues that have exceeded 2 billion yen include the first chapter of Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space (released in 1982), Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM (released in 2024), and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- (released in 2025).
"Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway" is based on a novel published in 1989-90 by director Yoshiyuki Tomino, known as the creator of the "Gundam" series. Set in the year 0105 of the Universal Century, Hathaway, the son of Bright Noa, who experienced a bitter separation during the Second Neo Zeon War, pilots a new mobile suit, the Xi Gundam, and rises up in rebellion against the Earth Federation government.
It has been announced that the anime will be made up of three chapters, with the second chapter being released on January 30th on 431 screens, including IMAX.
