The opening day stage greeting for the fifth chapter, "The Incandescent Galactic War," of "Yamato Forever REBEL 3199," the latest installment in the remake series of the popular anime "Space Battleship Yamato," was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) on February 20th. One of the highlights of the fifth chapter is the all-out battle between Yamato and the combined fleet of Garmillan and Garmillan against the intermediate supply base, Digabras. The main visual also features the catchphrase, "The last minute, everything changes." Speaking to the audience after the shocking ending, general director Harutoshi Fukui expressed his thoughts, saying, "I wanted to see the faces of the people right after seeing this. We did everything we could this time. I have no words to express it better."
Director Yamato Naomichi and screenwriter Oka Hideki also appeared on stage to greet the audience, and Nakamura Eriko, who plays Kiryu Mikage, was in charge of hosting the event.
Oka said, "I've said this many times, but this time I'm overwhelmed with emotion," Yamato said, "I feel like I've finally made it this far," and Fukui said of future developments, "We'll use this as a stepping stone to take another leap. It's just the beginning."
In Chapter 5, even seemingly casual scenes seem to have meaning, and Fukui hinted, "Important things are said and done. The exchanges between Kodai and Sasha are also heartwarming, and I think there will be moments later where you'll realize what they were trying to say. I hope you'll watch it multiple times."
"Yamato 3199" is a re-imagining of the original works "Yamato Forever" and "Space Battleship Yamato III," with a new interpretation added. There are seven chapters in total, with the sixth chapter, "Blue Labyrinth," set to premiere on June 26th.
