The latest trailer and new poster visual for the latest theatrical release in the Star Wars film series, The Mandalorian and Grogu (directed by Jon Favreau, to be released simultaneously in Japan and the US on May 22nd), have been released.
In the film "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu," five years after the death of Darth Vader and the collapse of the Empire, the Mandalorian, a ruthless, lone bounty hunter who follows the strict rules of his family and never reveals his true face to others, and who carries out any job perfectly, accepts a job: to deliver Grogu, also known as "The Child," who possesses great Force powers and is said to be a being that can change the world, alive to his client.
The Mandalorian initially handed Grogu over in exchange for a large sum of money, but he felt a mysterious connection and broke the family rules to recapture Grogu. During their journey, the two gradually developed a bond like that of father and son. However, they were pursued by remnants of the former Imperial Army, desperate to obtain Grogu's power at all costs... This is the story.
The released footage includes the "Star Wars Theme," a spectacular shot of X-wing fighter jets flying in formation, and a droid, likely the same R2 unit as R2-D2, making the familiar beeping noise, demonstrating that this film will continue the legacy of "Star Wars." The footage also depicts the thrilling world of "Star Wars" on an overwhelming scale, including the moment a spaceship enters hyperdrive (high-speed space warp), a character of the same species as Jabba the Hutt, and a speedy battle scene against the Imperial Army's elite soldiers, the Snowtroopers.
The trailer also includes footage of the Mandalorian and Grogu, two of the main characters in the film, embarking on an adventure across the galaxy. While the trailer shows heartwarming interactions between Grogu and the Mandalorian, such as when he gets scolded for playing pranks on a spaceship or eating sweets before dinner, it also shows him using the Force powers he learned from Luke Skywalker to pulverize a mouse droid and showing off his dignified appearance in armor, giving us a glimpse of his growth as a reliable partner who fights alongside the Mandalorian.
Colonel Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver, also appears and meaningfully tells the Mandalorian and Grogu, "This is not revenge. It's a fight to prevent a new war." The full story is still shrouded in mystery, but there are lines hinting at the existence of remnants of the supposedly collapsed Imperial Army, and it looks like the future of the galaxy is about to take a major turn.
The poster released at the same time features an impressive image of Grogu riding on the Mandalorian's shoulder, reminiscent of the scene in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode 5)" where Yoda, of the same species as Grogu, rides on Luke Skywalker's shoulder and trains him as a Jedi.
It will also be interesting to see what kind of battles the Mandalorian and Grogu, who are bound by a strong trust like Luke and Yoda, will overcome together.
