It has been announced that the stop-motion animation "Candy Curries," a collaboration between director Tomoki Misato, known for the animation "PUI PUI Molcar," and WIT STUDIO, will be broadcast on TBS's information variety program "Yoru no Brunch" (Wednesdays at 11:56 PM) from April 15th. It has also been announced that the theme song "Telepathy" will be performed by IS:SUE, a girl group born from the audition program "PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS."
The cast has also been announced, including Sato Miyuki as the young girl Ame, Takeda Hana as Caries, the free-spirited tooth decay girl who lives in Ame's mouth, Katagiri Jin as the mad dentist, Matsumaru Ryogo as Caries' boyfriend Harold, and Noro Kayo as Ame's mother.
A second teaser PV has also been released on YouTube, showing how unique materials such as plastic board and acrylic are stacked to create unique characters and colorful items.
NANO from IS:SUE commented, "We, IS:SUE, have been chosen to perform the theme song for 'Candy Caries'! We are truly honored. It's a cute song that will show a different side of IS:SUE than we've seen before. It's sure to be a song you'll never get out of your head, so we hope lots of people will find themselves humming along. We at IS:SUE feel like we've become part of the world of 'Candy Caries' and can help make the show even more exciting! Look forward to the broadcast in the spring!"
Katagiri, who plays the mad dentist, said, "I did the voice acting for the dentist, who looks like a mad scientist from the perspective of his cavities. Director Misato is an incredible person who has dedicated his life to stop-motion animation! I've seen animations that use a variety of materials, but stop-motion animation using plastic sheets was a new experience for me! The expression of depth that can only be achieved with transparent materials! The scenes change between flat and three-dimensional compositions! It's finally finished, and I can't wait to see it!!"
Matsumaru, who plays Harold, commented, "When I received the request to 'offer me as a voice actor, not just as a guest voice actor,' I was so honored I remember jumping for joy. The character I play, Harold, appears refreshing and kind, but is actually a scumbag, so I researched and worked hard to come up with a voice that was superficially kind without putting any emotion into it! Candy Caries is an innovative animated work that was created by moving plastic board frame by frame. It's cute, comical, sparkling, and a mysterious work that will have you enchanted... I can't wait to share these feelings with everyone. Please look forward to it!"
Noro, who plays Ame-mama, said, "I heard from the staff at Candy Curries that their filming methods were very interesting, and I realized that they must have taken a lot of time and care to create this work. I was happy to be chosen to play the role of the mother in such a wonderful production. I don't have much experience as a voice actress, and the mother role is an invisible one, so it was difficult at times, but I was able to do it with the advice of the director and staff. It has beautiful animation, a unique main character, and a story, so I hope you will enjoy it."
The series is set in a "squishy" world made of materials such as plastic board and acrylic, and depicts the hectic daily life of Ame, a girl who loves sweets, and Caries, a free-spirited tooth decay creature who lives in Ame's mouth. Released on YouTube in March 2021, it has gained popularity, with around 1.75 million views to date, and will now be broadcast as a TV anime.
