"Platinum Family: A Peek into the Magnificent Family" is a TV Asahi variety show that introduces the lifestyles of "magnificent families" (Tuesdays at 7pm *excluding some areas). On February 17th, an old house built over 150 years ago on Sado Island in Niigata, which is attracting attention for the Sado Gold Mine, a World Heritage Site, will be featured.
The Hagita Family Residence was moved to its current location in the early Meiji period. Built using traditional methods without using a single nail, the 9LDK mansion was once owned by local dignitary Tetsuya Hagita, and is said to have been visited by the then British ambassador and former Prime Minister Taro Aso's father, Tagakichi Aso.
After that, the house remained vacant for about 30 years, but the current owner, Mr. Kasuga, purchased it eight years ago. He renovated it and revived it as a home and guesthouse. However, there are still many valuable items remaining throughout the house, many of which are kept untouched in the storehouse. It is said that books from the Bunsei and Ansei periods of the Edo period are also still there.
In the program, a "storehouse specialist" who has investigated over 1,000 storehouses across the country will carry out an appraisal. The appraiser praises the exquisitely crafted wooden statue of Kobo Daishi Kukai, which had been lying dormant, calling it "wonderful." In addition, a number of items that appear to have historical value are also revealed, including a red and black lacquered bow that is said to have been made in the Edo period. What will be the appraisal results of the treasures?
On this day, "Platinum Family" will be a special collaboration with "Exploring Japan Academic Variety: Tuesday's Yoshizumi Kotaro." The "Platinum Family" segment will also feature a close look at Tsushima Jun, a member of the House of Representatives and grandson of the Showa era literary giant Dazai Osamu. In the "Tuesday's Yoshizumi Kotaro" segment, "travel expert" Ishihara Yoshizumi will guide a day trip around Kagoshima Prefecture.
