The sixth and final installment of the popular anime "Evangelion" series' "Monthly Eva EVANGELION 30th MOVIE Fest. 2025-2026" revival screening project, "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time," began screening on February 13th. Over the three days, it grossed ¥110 million and attracted over 65,000 viewers. According to Kogyo Tsushinsha, the film ranked fifth in weekend attendance figures from February 13th to 15th, despite only being shown in 92 theaters. The film was also shown in select IMAX and Dolby Cinema versions, just like when it was released in 2021. Despite being shown in only 20 theaters, it proved popular, drawing over 10,000 viewers.
The screenings were held in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, and included "audience screenings" where people were allowed to speak out loud. At the beginning, Ogata Megumi and Mitsuishi Kotono reminisced about their time there, which drew loud applause. As the film began, there were warm cheers and encouragement for Shinji, Rei, and Asuka, who are each struggling with their own conflicts. There were also voices of gratitude for Shinji's classmates Toji and Kensuke, who support him. Towards the end, there were voices of sympathy for Gendo, a character not present in the previous three films, with people saying, "I understand." At the end, amidst some sobbing, there were calls for all the characters, and at the end of the credits, the screening concluded with applause and loud voices of gratitude for Director General Anno Hideaki.
"Monthly Evangelion" will screen one film per month (two films in October) for one week from October 2025 to February 2026. So far, "Neon Genesis Evangelion: 1.0 You Can (Not) Redo," "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Air/The End of Evangelion," "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone," "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance," and "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo" have been screened. "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" will be screened until February 19th.
The first film, "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth," grossed 200 million yen and attracted over 120,000 viewers. The second film, "Neon Genesis Evangelion Air: The End of Evangelion," grossed 220 million yen and attracted over 140,000 viewers, both of which were very successful.
