TV Tokyo will broadcast "Election Satellite 2026," a special program for the House of Representatives election to be held on February 8th, for approximately three and a half hours from 7:55 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Speaking of TV Tokyo, journalist Akira Ikegami set a trend for election specials in recent years with his "General Election Live" program, which drew attention for its lively exchanges with party leaders. However, following the previous House of Representatives election in 2024 and the House of Councillors election last year, Ikegami has announced that he will not be appearing on the terrestrial television election special this time around, but will instead be streaming it on his own YouTube channel with Yuri Masuda.
This time, the pre-election special, which was a hot topic during last year's House of Councillors election, will be streamed daily on the video service "TV Tokyo BIZ" from January. Furthermore, they are developing a "unique battle" by organizing a two-hour special on the 7th, the day before the election.
The special election program will be different from last year's House of Councillors election, which had regular programs in between. The lineup will include announcers Hitomi Tanaka, Shinsaku Toyoshima, Yuka Takezaki, and TV Tokyo's Tatsuo Yamakawa, who are members of "World Business Satellite," as well as Takuji Izawa as a special election anchor. The program will forecast developments from the following day onward through live coverage from the economic scene.
The event will also be live streamed on YouTube's "TV Tokyo BIZ Digest," and former Prime Minister's Office reporter Hiroaki Shinohara, who has made a name for himself in previous election specials, will appear on the show.
