It has been announced that "Dragon Ball Super Beerus," an "enhanced version" of the anime "Dragon Ball Super," based on the popular manga by the late Akira Toriyama, will be produced and broadcast on Fuji TV in the fall of 2026. The announcement was made on January 25th at the "Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri" event, which commemorates the 40th anniversary of "Dragon Ball," held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama Ward, Chiba City). Footage of Son Goku fighting Beerus, the God of Destruction, was also released.
The event featured Masako Nozawa, who voices Son Goku, Akio Ino, executive producer of the Dragon Ball series, and a surprise appearance by Koichi Yamadera, who voices Beerus, the God of Destruction.
"Enhanced" means "to raise, strengthen, improve." A large number of new scenes will be added, scenes will be revised, all scenes will be re-shot, and new dubbing will be done, including the addition of background music and sound effects, to reconstruct the story. Ino explained, "We'll start with 'Super' once again. With the latest footage, the battle between Goku and Beerus will be fierce. We reread the teacher's script and stayed faithful to the original."
The original Dragon Ball manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1984 to 1995, and the TV anime adaptation began in 1986. The total number of copies of the comics published worldwide exceeds 260 million.
In recent years, the Dragon Ball Super series, originally conceived by Toriyama, aired from 2015 to 2018, followed by the animated feature films Dragon Ball Super: Broly in 2018 and Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes in 2022, both of which were hits, and the series has continued to be loved around the world for over 40 years. The all-new TV anime series Dragon Ball DAIMA, which aired from October 2024 to February 2025, also attracted a lot of attention. It was also announced at the event that a new anime series, Dragon Ball Super: Galaxy Patrol, will be produced.
