"Human Gourmet: Omoumai-ten" (Chukyo TV/Nippon TV, Tuesdays at 7pm) is a variety show that introduces "amazing shops" that go beyond imagination. On February 3rd, the show will be introducing "Hyakusho Udon" in Miyazaki City, which the show has regularly followed closely.
The restaurant is famous for its udon noodles made with local Miyazaki vegetables and mushrooms, and popular dishes include the "Burdock Tempura Udon" (650 yen) topped with a large burdock tempura measuring 25cm in diameter, and the "Shiitake Mushroom Udon" (620 yen). Customers also praise the "Tanuki Udon" (440 yen), topped with special tempura flakes that are drained of oil over a week, saying it is "artistically finely textured and has a great texture."
There is a wide variety of dishes, from simple ones like "Kitsune Udon" (540 yen) with three pieces of deep-fried tofu, and "Yamakake Udon" (650 yen), to "Special Farmer Udon" (800 yen) packed with many toppings such as burdock tempura, kelp, and wild vegetables, and even huge portions like the "Burdock Tempura Udon Shogunmori" (3,440 yen) that serves 10 people. The shaved ice, available only in the summer, is also famous, and the "Rainbow Tower Shaved Ice" (990 yen), which stands at about 80 centimeters high, is a favorite with families and groups.
In the fall of 2025, the program took a closer look at the shop for the first time in a while. It was so busy in the summer that they even prepared a temporary parking lot (for 100 cars). The shop owner was often overwhelmed with making shaved ice during business hours, but part-time worker Shunichiro, a former doctor, took over the entire process, from making the udon to preparing the udon and making the noodles.
Also joining the team are a woman who shows just as much enthusiasm as the owner, who said, "I hired her because she was motivated," and an older man who volunteered to help out during the busiest time of summer. The part-time workers who learned about the restaurant on TV are still going strong, and the kitchen seems even more lively.
However, Shunichiro, who the owner had generously taught him the techniques of udon making, decided to leave the restaurant. The owner was shocked by the reason. "I don't refuse those who come, and I don't chase those who leave. That's my way," says the owner, as we follow his new encounters and farewells.
The show will be hosted by talent Hiromi, and will be hosted by comedy trio "Bike King"'s Eiji Kotoge. Guest appearances will include the comedy duo "Nishikigoi" and talent Akane Osawa.
