A number of cuts featuring characters active in Yoshiwara Shangri-La, including the Yorozuya, have been released for the upcoming animated film adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's popular manga Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames. Among the images are Sakata Gintoki with an uneasy smile and blood flowing from his forehead amidst a raging fire and flying sparks; Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura facing a threat with weapons in hand; Housen exuding an overwhelming presence with Yoshiwara Shangri-La behind him; Tsukuyo looking down with a pipe in hand; and Kagura's brother, Kamui, with a combative expression.
The film also includes a dynamic action scene in which Gintoki, confronting Housen, leaps powerfully from the sky, orphan Haruta searching for his mother, Yoshiwara's top courtesan, Hiwa, looking up at the sky with a lonely expression, and scenes of Katsura Kotaro and the Shinsengumi, which were not depicted in the original work.
It was also announced that a stage greeting to commemorate the film's release will be held on February 13th at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo). In addition to the Yorozuya cast, including Tomokazu Sugita, Sakaguchi Daisuke as Shimura Shinpachi, and Kugimiya Rie as Kagura, SUPER BEAVER, who will be performing the theme song, and director Ando Naoya will also be in attendance.
The new animated film is a completely new anime adaptation of "Yoshiwara Burning Arc," also known as the hottest and most famous episode in the original work's history. The story is set in the underground red-light district of Yoshiwara, where Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura of the Yorozuya family step into a city that has lost its light and is now under the control of the "King of the Night," Housen. Directed by Ando, the film is produced by BN Pictures. It will be released on February 13th.
"Gintama" is set in a fictional Edo, and the story follows Sakata Gintoki as he solves various cases brought to the general store with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura. The series began serialization in December 2003 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), and the final episode aired in June 2019.
The first season of the TV anime aired from 2006 to 2010, the second from 2011 to 2013, the third from 2015 to 2016, and the fourth from 2017 to 2018. The animated feature films "Gintama: The Movie - The Red Cherry Blossom Arc" was released in 2010, and "Gintama: The Movie - The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" was released in 2013. The film "Gintama: The Final" was released in 2021. The TV anime "3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," based on a spin-off of the "Gintama" spin-off "Gintama: 3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," aired from October to December 2025.
