The TBS Tuesday drama "Mirai no Musuko" (Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actress Shida Mirai, will begin airing on January 13th. The original work is the popular manga "Mirai no Musuko: A Son Came Down into the Sky, a Boy Who Has Been Single for 10 Years!" written by Aso Kumiko and illustrated by Kuromugi Hajime. The story follows a woman who is half-hearted in love, work and dreams, but suddenly becomes a mother. Through raising her child, she learns about the importance of living and supporting others, and starts living again. This is Shida's first role as a mother in 20 years, since the 2006 NTV drama "14-Year-Old Mother."
Shida plays Shiokawa Mirai, a woman in her 30s whose dreams and career are on the brink of collapse. One day, a boy named Souta (Amano Yu) appears before her, claiming to be "Mirai's son." Souta has come from the future of 2036 to reconcile Mirai with his father, "Ma-kun." The three candidates for "Ma-kun" are Shiono Akihisa as her ex-boyfriend Akihisa Shiono, popular group WEST. member Kotaki Nozomu as her classmate Matsuoka Yuta, and Hyodo Kokai as Yano Makoto, who admires Mirai. Nishino Nanase plays Mirai's best friend Imai Saori, and the intimidating Oki plays Mirai's boss at her part-time job, Tanaka Masakazu.
In the first episode, Shiokawa Mirai, a woman in her 30s who is on the brink of collapse with no permanent job, no savings, and no boyfriend, pursues her dream of becoming an actor and joins the theater troupe "Albatross," led by her ex-boyfriend Yoshizawa Masaki (Shiono). She spends her days working part-time jobs and participating in activities with fellow actors such as Yano.
After receiving notice that she was rejected from the audition, Mirai suddenly thinks that maybe now is the time to give up on her dream. Trying to shake off such thoughts, Mirai starts to have an evening drink with a lemon sour in hand, when a boy appears before her, blinded by thunder and a violent flash of light.
The boy, who calls Mirai "Mama" and introduces himself as Souta, is the son of the future who has traveled back in time from 2036.
Before she could even begin to think clearly, she began living with her son from the future. And then there's a fateful reunion with Matsuoka, a classmate from the future who works as a nursery school teacher... What will become of this timeless love story?
