A video was released on YouTube on January 1st in which the Yorozuya cast members, Tomokazu Sugita as Sakata Gintoki, Sakaguchi Daisuke as Shimura Shinpachi, and Kugimiya Rie as Kagura, who appear in the anime series "Gintama," based on the popular manga by Sorachi Hideaki, talk about their aspirations for 2026.
In the video, with the new animated film "Gintama: The New Movie - Yoshiwara in Flames" set to be released on February 13th, Sakaguchi said, "Speaking of 2026, 'Gintama: The New Movie - Yoshiwara in Flames' will be released!", followed by the three announcing their resolutions for this year. Kugimiya said, "I'll do my best, healthy and happy!", Sakaguchi said, "I'll be healthy!", and Sugita said, "I'll revive my family's farm!". Sugita called out, "Gintama in 2026 too!", and they concluded with, "Thank you for your support!"
A TV spot featuring the theme song "Sanzen" by the band "SUPER BEAVER" was also released. "Let's get this party started!" is heard as Gintoki shouts, and a tense action scene featuring Shinpachi and Kagura is shown. Also appearing are the Shinsengumi, who did not appear in the original episode, and Housen, the overwhelmingly powerful man who rules the town of Yoshiwara.
To commemorate the release of the new anime film, the 2021 anime film "Gintama THE FINAL" will be broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks from 12:45 a.m. on January 2nd. This will be the first time the film will be broadcast on terrestrial television.
The new animated film is a completely new anime adaptation of "Yoshiwara Burning Arc," one of the most exciting and memorable episodes in the original manga's history. The story is set in the underground red-light district of Yoshiwara, where Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura of the Yorozuya family enter a city that has lost its light and is now under the control of the "King of the Night," Housen. Directed by Naoya Ando, the film is produced by BN Pictures.
"Gintama" is set in a fictional Edo, and the story follows Sakata Gintoki as he solves various cases brought to the general store with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura. The series began serialization in December 2003 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), and the final episode aired in June 2019.
The first season of the TV anime aired from 2006 to 2010, the second from 2011 to 2013, the third from 2015 to 2016, and the fourth from 2017 to 2018. The animated feature films "Gintama: The Movie - The Red Cherry Blossom Arc" was released in 2010, and "Gintama: The Movie - The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" was released in 2013. The film "Gintama: The Final" was released in 2021. The TV anime "3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," based on a spin-off of the "Gintama" spin-off "Gintama: 3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," aired from October to December 2025.
