Episode 9 tells the story of a serial murder case that began with the digging up of a time capsule for the first time in 22 years, and the remaining targets are Takagi and Koyama Takahiro (Shintaro Morimoto).
At the snack bar "Imakuni," Mori (Furudate Yutaro) watches a DVD of his elementary school days with Takagi and others. He tells them that Seto Shion, the forgotten "Do-ko," was a classmate in 5th grade class 1, but was bullied by Takagi and his friends shortly after class changes, causing him to stop attending school and transfer schools. Due to Takagi and his friends' interference, Seto missed the note "Do" on a recorder test, and Takagi laughed, saying, "You're 'Do-ko' because you can't hit Do!" This led to Seto being bullied.
Later, Takagi and Sonoko (Araki) go to Seto's family home, where he runs a piano school. When Takagi sees the house, he remembers visiting the same place with his daughter Kanon (Miyazaki Ririsa), who wanted to learn piano. Then, when Sonoko searches the mailbox of the uninhabited house, she finds mail addressed to "Seto Shion" and "Utsumi Kei."
Takagi visits Imakuni (Subaru Kimura) to ask about Utsumi (Junki Tozuka), and learns from Moeka (Miku Tanaka) that Utsumi once came to Imakuni with his fiancee, pianist Seto (Ohgo Suzuka). Imakuni then reveals that Utsumi fell in love at first sight after hearing Seto play the piano, proposed to Seto, and that Seto died a year ago.
Meanwhile, Utsumi visits Koyama's company. Utsumi asks Koyama if he knows anything about Seto, and Koyama, who has been doing his own research on Seto, reveals that someone has booked a concert hall for the next day using Seto's name, even though he was supposed to be dead. Koyama then responds to Utsumi's request to "leave the rest to the police," saying, "As long as they can definitely catch him..."
In the episode, after finishing his story, Utsumi puts on the VR goggles developed by Koyama, which allow him to experience outer space. He says, "It suddenly got dark," and motions for Koyama to put them on. Then, as Koyama looks into outer space and says, "It's working fine...," Utsumi attacks him from behind and strangles him with a wire around his neck. Later, while on the run, Utsumi visits Takagi's house and reveals that he killed Koyama and his classmates, that Seto committed suicide after being unable to play the piano due to the trauma of past bullying, and that Takagi's previous visit to Seto's house was the trigger for his trauma. He tells Takagi, "You haven't changed. You've always been a bad kid, so just stay that way," and leaves the scene.
On social media, many expressed shock at the scene where Koyama was killed by Utsumi. Comments included, "Whoa ...
