It was announced on December 16th that singer and actor Gen Hoshino will be appearing as part of a special project on the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen Gassen, which will be broadcast on New Year's Eve. This will be his 11th appearance on Kouhaku.
Hoshino will perform "Creation," a track from his original album "Gen," released this year, which was the starting point for the album's production. The song, which is imbued with a passion for "manufacturing," was provided as the theme song for the 35th anniversary of the globally beloved game "Super Mario Bros."
The song will be performed at the Nintendo Museum in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture. This will be the first time that an artist has performed at this venue, which is steeped in the history of entertainment and games. The performance will be filled with Hoshino's playful spirit and the joy of creating things, and will unfold on a stage that chronicles the history of "Super Mario Bros.", 40 years after its creation (the performance will be pre-recorded, so there will be no live broadcast from the Nintendo Museum on the day of the broadcast).
The theme of the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen is "Connecting, Connecting, New Year's Eve," and it will be hosted by Hiroiki Ariyoshi, Haruka Ayase, Mio Imada, and announcer Naoko Suzuki. It will be broadcast from 7:20 pm to 11:45 pm on December 31st (with some news breaks).
