It has been announced that Toshiaki Iwashiro's psychic battle action manga "PSYREN," which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), will be adapted into a TV anime in 2026. The original manga was serialized from 2008 to 2010, and even now, about 15 years after its completion, it remains extremely popular, having been nominated three times in the "Manga to be Anime-adapted" voting project by AnimeJapan.
Katsumi Ono, who has worked on the "Senki Zesshō Symphogear" series, will serve as director, Shin Yoshida will be the series composer, Shiro Okuma will be the character designer, and Takao Omama, Tatsuhiko Saiki, and Shu Kanematsu will be in charge of the music. The series will be produced by Satelight, which also worked on the "Aquarion" and "Macross" series. The main character, Ageha Yashina, will be played by Rikuya Yasuda, and the heroine, Sakurako Amemiya, will be played by Mayuko Kazama.
A teaser PV has also been released, which is made up of live-action footage and setting images, including a teaser visual depicting a boy named Yoka Ageha holding a red telephone card, the heroine Amemiya Sakurako holding a sword, a public telephone, which is an item symbolic of the work, and a public telephone booth floating in the night, set in a desolate world where a mysterious tower stands tall.
Iwashiro, the original author, commented, "It's being made into an anime! I'm happy to be able to tell my parents and family this, something I wasn't able to do about 15 years ago. The young editors and animation production staff greeted me with blazing, passionate eyes and said they loved Siren and read it when they were teenagers, and I'm so moved and grateful that these people are now adults... and are involved in the anime adaptation. I hope everyone can experience the fun of Siren! I was involved in many ways with the script. I too am very much looking forward to seeing the moving and talking Ageha characters in action."
Yasuda, who plays Yoka Ageha, said, "I received the notification that I passed the audition at home, and I was so glad that I was in an environment where I could shout out loud that I was able to sing out loud. From that time until today, I want to share with everyone the excitement I have felt from the TV anime 'PSYREN'. I will be running through the world of 'PSYREN' together with Ageha, which is getting even more exciting now, about 15 years after the original work was completed!!!"
Kazama, who plays Amamiya Sakurako, said, "Amamiya has a cool appearance that earns her the nickname 'Ice Queen,' but she is actually a character who hides a variety of emotions deep inside. During the dubbing, I gave my all while thinking about how to confront her inner self and how to express her charm. Please look forward to the broadcast!"
The story of "PSYREN" is that Yoka Ageha, a first-year high school student, accesses the secret society Siren, rumored to be the mastermind behind a series of "spirited away" disappearances occurring nationwide, and a life-threatening game begins... To commemorate the anime adaptation, it has been decided that all volumes of the comic will be reprinted.
