Actor and singer Win Morisaki appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on November 26th. He talked about his memories of appearing in a Steven Spielberg film seven years ago.
When he entered the entertainment industry, his family revealed, "At first, they thought it would be fine as a hobby, so I let them do it, but when I got a role in a Hollywood production, they were relieved that I could finally make a living." Until then, they had always told him to get qualifications, go to university, study hard, and make sure he was in a position where he could find a job immediately if something happened. It was director Spielberg who gave him the confidence that he could make it in the entertainment industry.
He made his Hollywood debut at the age of 27 in the film "Ready Player One" (2018), which was directed by the director. The director is a legendary figure, and he has a strong image of being someone above the clouds, so he was nervous about whether he would be able to look him in the eye when he spoke to him. He had been in contact with the director since the audition. "From the moment we met, he was very friendly and approachable. Now that I think about it, he even managed to meet my eye level when I was nervous and spoke to me," he said of his impression.
Two years ago, he appeared in the NHK Taiga drama "What Will Ieyasu Do?", playing the role of Tokugawa Hidetada. It was his first period drama, and there were some challenges in playing a real person. However, he said that the character is an essential figure in history, and since he had not studied history much at school in Japan, he studied hard. He spoke with deep emotion about the period drama costumes, saying, "It was so much fun. It was an experience that doesn't come around very often."
