It has been announced that season 2 of the Hulu original drama "Drops of God," starring actor Tomohisa Yamashita, will be exclusively distributed in Japan on Hulu from January 23, 2026. The cast and staff from the previous series, including Yamashita as Issei Tomine and Fleur Geoffriere as Camille Léger, will reprise their roles, and Yamashita will also be taking on the challenge of producing for the first time as executive producer.
The drama is based on the popular manga "Drops of God" (Kodansha), which depicts the world of gastronomy, fine wine, and the destiny of a family. Following the death of world-renowned wine authority Alexandre Léger, his daughter Camille, who lives in Paris, and his former apprentice, Tomine Issei, embark on a cross-border battle over a vast inheritance that includes the world's largest wine collection, valued at 167 billion yen. Season 1 was released in Japan in 2023 and won the "Outstanding Drama Series" award at the 52nd International Emmy Awards.
In Season 2, the story follows Camille and Hitoshi as they travel the globe in search of the origins of the world's greatest wine, a mystery that even Camille's father, Alexandre Léger, was unable to unravel, and as they come face to face with their own lives... What began as a battle over an inheritance soon develops into a story set in Europe and Japan about human relationships, values, and the question, "What makes a truly unforgettable wine?"
Regarding Season 2, Yamashita commented, "The scale has clearly increased compared to the previous series." Speaking of his memories of the approximately 10-month filming, which took him to five countries - France, Greece, Spain, Georgia, and Japan - Yamashita cited free diving, which he "performed almost entirely by himself with no stunts," describing it as physically and mentally challenging. He expressed confidence, saying, "I'm sure viewers will enjoy seeing different aspects of the world, including the ocean, mountains, and wine."
