The show "Junin Jyuuni-iro ~As many family shapes as there are houses~" (MBS, Saturday 5pm, Kansai local and other stations) hosted by talent Mika Mifune and actor Taro Suruga will feature the "V-shaped house" in Higashinari Ward, Osaka City, which is self-organizing.
The residents are a family living with their three children. Last year, they moved into a new home designed by their architect husband. The "Unagi no Nebuku" (Eel Bed) is 3.1 meters wide, 12 meters deep, and has a floor area of 33 sq. meters, and the front is entirely made of glass, with a combination of large and small windows.
The center of life is the 16-tatami living/dining/kitchen area on the second floor, which takes advantage of the park's scenery to bring in greenery. The V-shaped roof allows light to reach the trees in the park and also protects against fallen leaves. There are no gutters, and the system allows fallen leaves to flow away along with the rainwater. The house also has a "self-cleaning" function for the windows when the water level increases.
The interior is also packed with ideas to keep things tidy "on their own." In the kitchen, appliances can be hidden simply by closing the door, and in the bathroom, a drawer has been fitted with an outlet so that the hair dryer can be left plugged in and put away. In the children's room on the third floor, a hidden door stores their desk, clothes and bedding. "I don't have to tell them to tidy up anymore, so cleaning is easier and less stressful," his wife says with a laugh. The house is full of ideas that not only keep the house tidy, but also foster a sense of independence in the children.
"Jyunin Jyuiro" is a program that visits homes all over Japan and introduces the residents' preferences and charms for their homes. After broadcast, it will be available on TVer for one week.
