Actor Masaki Okada appeared at an event held at SHIBUYA QWS in Shibuya, Tokyo on November 12th, just before the release of director Mamoru Hosoda's latest animated film, "Scarlet" (released November 21st). Okada said that out of all of Hosoda's works, he is particularly fond of "Summer Wars ," which he watches every summer. He said, "I love Sakae's line, 'The worst thing is to be hungry and to be alone,' and I cry every time I see that line."
Okada, whose wife, actress Mitsuki Takahata, is pregnant with their first child, said, "As our family grows, I want to make it like this. I want to see it again next year and the year after. From now on, I will be looking at it from a parent's perspective, so I think I will see it from a completely different perspective."
The event took place in Shibuya, Tokyo, one of the locations associated with director Hosoda's films " Scarlet Scarlet" and "The Boy and the Beast ." The venue was SHIBUYA QWS, which is close to the sky and resembles the "endless place" (a heavenly place said to be at the very end of the mountain peaks) that appears in the film "Endless Scarlet."
The event was attended by Mana Ashida, the voice actress for the main character Scarlett, and director Hosoda. The MC was Iwai Yuuki of the comedy duo "Haraichi," who is a big fan of Hosoda's work.
Director Hosoda wrote the original story and screenplay for the latest film. After failing to exact revenge on her father's murder, Scarlett once again seeks revenge on her nemesis in the Land of the Dead. The Land of the Dead is a place where if Scarlett does not achieve revenge on her nemesis and reach the "endless place," she will become nothing and disappear, and so she embarks on an endless journey of revenge. Okada will voice the role of Hijiri, a modern-day Japanese nurse who travels with Scarlett.
