It has been announced that manga artist Urasawa Naoki's Manben Neo, a documentary program on NHK Educational TV that delves into the creative secrets of manga artists, will feature Chika Umino, known for "Honey and Clover" and "March Comes in Like a Lion." This will be Umino's first time appearing on a television program. Her appearance was apparently made possible at Urasawa's earnest request. The program will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV at 10pm on November 22nd.
The program will take a look behind the scenes at the writing of "March Comes in Like a Lion," a manga about a genius high school shogi player. The program closely follows the various stages of the storyboard, which is usually difficult to film, from the initial draft to the inking and color manuscripts, and the filming period lasted eight days, the longest in the program's history. As the initial drafts are rewritten, the pictures are gradually added, and the secrets behind the creation of these heart-warming words are revealed.
The inside story of how Umino, who started out as an illustrator, suddenly decided to serialize "Honey and Clover" will also be revealed. Umino, who depicts people who "strive to master their path," will also talk about the determination she has as she approaches her work.
