The fourth episode of the drama series "Good Things and Bad Things" (NTV, Saturdays at 9 PM), starring actors Mamiya Shotaro and Araki Yuko, aired on November 1st. Towards the end of the episode, the true identity of Utsumi Kei (Kimura Subaru), a regular customer at the snack bar "Imakuni" frequented by Takagi (Subaru Kimura), was revealed, causing a stir on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
In episode 4, Takagi and Sonoko (Araki) investigate the truth behind a series of murders that have been hitting their classmates one after another. As they suspected, after Takeda (Mizukawa Katamari), Sakurai (Kudo Asuka), and Emi (Matsui Rena), Takagi's best friend Koyama Takahiro (Shintaro Morimoto) is attacked. The crimes are carried out in the order of a parody song that Takagi and his friends wrote 22 years ago, and there is no doubt that the fifth target is "Chonmage" (Mori Yusaku), also known as Hatachi Taisuke.
22 years ago, Hatachi had drawn a picture of a "samurai with a topknot holding a sword" as his dream for the future, and if he were attacked in that way, he would stab him to death. Wanting to let Hatachi know as soon as possible, Takagi goes to Hatachi's apartment with Sonoko and Koyama. Hatachi, with his messy hair tied up with a rubber band, lives a reclusive life in a messy room. Having heard about the incident on the news, Hatachi knows he will be the next target, and hands Sonoko a kitchen knife, saying, "It can't be helped. We... were the ones who bullied you," and demands that she kill him quickly, saying, "Don't be shy. I'm worthless."
Takagi and the others try to persuade Hatachi, saying, "We're here to protect you. Friends should protect each other...", but Hatachi rejects them, saying, "We're not friends." However, later, Sonoko comes to see him alone and encourages him, saying, "Who else can change you but me? Change yourself. I could do it, so you can too, right?" After cleaning his room himself, Hatachi goes to Imakuni with Sonoko and reconciles with Takagi and Koyama... and so the story unfolds.
Towards the end of the episode, Detective Kaneda (Tsubasa Kizu) uses a whiteboard to organize the entire picture of the series of murders. After Kaneda has finished explaining the whole story, including how Sakurai was set on fire by someone and burned to death, Utsumi, a regular customer at Imakuni, responds with a "thank you." Utsumi, who is actually a detective with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division, looks grim as he looks at the documents and mutters, "No matter how you look at it, this is a series of murders."
On social media, many expressed surprise when Utsumi's true identity was revealed. Comments such as "What?! He's a police officer!!" "He was undercover?!" "He's definitely a Subaru police officer!!" "I thought he couldn't just be a regular!" and "He said he was a humble civil servant, so that's what he meant..." were posted.
