The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), one of Asia's largest film festivals, opened on October 27th in Hibiya, Tokyo, and other locations. A red carpet was laid out on Hibiya Nakadori, and a stellar lineup of celebrities, including actors Sayuri Yoshinaga and Non, appeared, bathed in countless flashes. Yoshinaga appeared in a purple kimono, and seemed deeply moved to be attending a film festival for the first time in 33 years.
Other guests in attendance included festival navigator Kumi Takiuchi, Riho Yoshioka, Ko Shibasaki, Haruna Kawaguchi, Keiko Kitagawa, Natsuki Deguchi, Takanori Iwata, and Kaito Takahashi and Katsunori Takahashi from the popular group King & Prince. The red carpet was 162 meters long, and 270 guests appeared.
TIFF's mission is to "disseminate the potential of film from Tokyo and contribute to exchange with a diverse world." This year's festival will feature actress Kumi Takiuchi as festival navigator, journalist, author, and programmer Carlo Chatrian as jury chair, and actor Takumi Saito as jury member. The festival will screen 184 films and will run until November 5th in the Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi, and Ginza districts.
