The drama is a serial adaptation of the winning work by Sonomura Hikaru, winner of the first TBS NEXT WRITERS CHALLENGE screenplay competition. Hanamura Kaoru, who suddenly quit her job and is struggling to find a new one, meets Hidaka Makie, the company's president and single mother, at an interview with the venture company RAINBOWLAB. Makie asks Hanamura to act as a substitute for her daughter Iroha (played by Ikemura Aoi), who is applying to a prestigious private elementary school, at the parent-child interview.
Kaoru is Iroha's private tutor. One day, Mamie encounters trouble at work and asks her to stay with Iroha until she returns. Kaoru readily agrees, and they spend time together, including having dinner together.
While getting Iroha to sleep, Kaoru falls asleep with her. When she wakes up and goes to the living room, she sees Makie. "It was a big help having you here, Kaoru. Thank you so much," Makie says, expressing her gratitude.
The two decided to have dinner together. As they talked about their lives, Kaoru, a graduate of Tokyo University, let slip that people have their own expectations of you and are disappointed just because of the name of the school. Makie encouraged her by saying, "It's amazing to have people's expectations of you. It's a waste of time to be pulled along by someone who will disappoint you. Just leave them alone." Makie also spoke about her impression of Kaoru, saying, "This person has chosen their own life. I want to entrust Iroha to this person. I truly want him to become the kind of person I want him to be."
Kaoru, who listened intently to Makie's story, revealed, "It gives me a sense of self-affirmation. I've been feeling a bit self-confident lately." Makie was then shown cheering Kaoru on, saying, "Kaoru, no matter what happens, you should never lower your own self-worth. You're amazing! I say it, so you can trust me!"
On social media, people were talking about how "Fake Mummy was so funny! I cried so much," "Fake Mummy made me cry unexpectedly," "Haru and Kawaei are such great actors, and their chemistry was better than I expected," "Kaoru's expression, filled with self-esteem, really hit me," "I was really moved by the line, 'No matter what happens, Kaoru, you should never lower your own self-worth.' Mamie is a wonderful woman," and "I really like Haru and Kawaei."
