Mayumi, the mother of model Anna Tsuchiya, appeared on Abema's documentary variety show "Women Who Can't Be Deceived Season 2" (Fridays at 10pm) on September 5th.
Mayumi had been Anna's manager for 16 years, but last year she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was given a year and a half to live.
Mayumi, 67, still accompanies Anna to the scene, standing for 45 minutes straight to watch her talk show. Even after she was given the prognosis, she didn't tell Anna right away, saying, "I can't tell you until I finish my important work," and prioritized Anna's work.
When Anna learned of her mother's illness, she broke down in tears and said, "I'd give my pancreas to her." Mayumi, who had always treasured her black hair as a kimono dresser, decided to shave it off the moment her hair fell out due to chemotherapy, and she decided to support her mother. She revealed her feelings at the time, saying, "I don't really care if she's given a prognosis for how much time she has left to live," and "I have to keep pushing forward without being timid."
One year after being told she had only a little time left to live, Mayumi has lost 13 kilograms, but the cancer has shrunk from 5 centimeters to 3 centimeters. Mayumi's current goals are to fulfill her promise to dress her grandchild in a kimono for her Shichigosan ceremony and to take a trip to Amami Oshima, and in late August she made her long-awaited trip come true. She expressed her optimistic outlook, saying, "Having a goal helps me do my best," and "I don't think I'm going to die yet."
The program also followed the comedy duo "Tanpopo" member Kawamura Emiko as she tried to find a husband in her 40s. Guest Takahashi Maasa revealed the shocking story of her father, Hideki Takahashi, who "threw away 33 tons of stuff over the course of a year while sorting out his belongings." Miyu Ikeda, also known as "Michopa," revealed that her mother, known for her beauty, "has always said she wants to remarry."
