The latest installment in the American film series "Tron" in 15 years, "Tron: Ares," will be released simultaneously in Japan and the US on October 10th. The latest footage and the US version poster have recently been released worldwide.
"Tron" (1982, directed by Steven Lisberger) was the world's first feature-length film to fully utilize computer graphics (CG), changing the history of visual entertainment. It depicted the story of genius programmer Kevin Flynn, who is sent into a digital world and takes on a life-or-death game, causing a social phenomenon.
Twenty-eight years later, in 2010, the sequel "Tron: Legacy" (directed by Joseph Kosinski) was released. Featuring Kevin's son, Sam, as the main character, the film captivated many fans with its cutting-edge visuals at the time, based on a pale blue neon theme. The music, produced by the French electronic duo Daft Punk, also became a hot topic.
The latest film, "Tron: Ares," will be directed by Joachim Rønning, who has worked on films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017) and "Maleficent 2" (2019), and the music will be provided by American rock band Nine Inch Nails, who have worked on films such as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (2011) and "Soulful World" (2020), and have won awards such as the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The latest trailer, released this time, shows Ares (Jared Leto), the strongest AI soldier in human history, described as "the most dangerous weapon in the world" with lightning speed and incredible strength, working together in the real world with genius programmer Eve (Greta Lee). They appear to be heading to Encom together for a certain purpose, but Ares also utters a meaningful line: "I was ordered to kill." The scene deepens the mystery of why these two people with opposing positions are together, and what Ares is searching for.
The film also includes a stunning scene in which red lasers "invade" the real world, with the techno-rock music by Nine Inch Nails and the sense of speed of the latest digital world. The film is packed with action scenes, including battles between AI soldiers, the emergence of winged flying machines, and fiery explosions.
In addition, the latest US poster, showing the giant surveillance flying machine Recognizer approaching, was also released at the same time.
