It has been announced that 470 new episodes will be added to "Sazae-san [Best Selection]," which is currently available on the video streaming services "FOD" and "U-NEXT," from noon on August 29th, and will be released sequentially. Currently, FOD and U-NEXT are streaming "Sazae-san [1960s-70s]" (400 episodes) and "Sazae-san [Best Selection]" (130 episodes), and together with the 470 new episodes, a total of 1,000 episodes will be available.
The new episodes will be a selection of episodes aired between 1997 and 2018. 20 episodes will be added at noon on August 29, September 5, 12, 19, and 26, and 20 episodes will be added every Friday thereafter.
"Sazae-san" is based on a manga by Machiko Hasegawa. The TV anime began airing on October 5, 1969. In 2013, it was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "longest-running TV anime program," and in 2019, it broke its own record by five years. In 2024, it was recognized by the Guinness World Records for another five years. Voice actress Midori Kato, who has played Fuguta Sazae since the first broadcast, has also been recognized by the Guinness World Records for "the longest time a voice actress (female) has played the same character in a TV anime program." It airs every Sunday at 6:30 pm on Fuji TV.
