Comic Market (Comiket) 106, Japan's largest doujinshi fair, opened on August 16th at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo), attracting approximately 120,000 visitors on the first day. Despite the intense heat, long lines of visitors formed at the venue in search of the doujinshi and other items they were looking for. Comiket 106 will run for two days until the 17th.
General participants require a ticket or wristband-type participation certificate to enter. In addition to morning and afternoon admission, early admission tickets were also sold to accommodate late-night arrivals. There were approximately 22,700 spaces for participating circles over the two days. Due to major renovations at Tokyo Big Sight, East Halls 1-3 were unavailable, so there were approximately 6,000 fewer spaces than last time.
The first Comiket was held in December 1975, with 32 circles and an estimated 700 people attending. It has been held in Harumi, Tokyo, Makuhari, Chiba, and elsewhere, and since Comiket 50 in 1996, it has been held at Tokyo Big Sight. Comiket 97, held in December 2019, attracted a record-breaking 750,000 visitors over four days. Comiket 105, held on December 29th and 30th, 2024, attracted approximately 300,000 visitors over two days.
