It has been announced that singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada will be performing the ending theme " Tatsuki Fujimoto DOE" for the upcoming anime film " Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc" (released September 19th), a sequel to the TV anime " Chainsaw Man ," based on Tatsuki Fujimoto's popular manga. Yonezu performed the theme song for the film, "IRIS OUT," and this marks his first collaboration with Utada on an ending theme. Yonezu wrote the lyrics and composed the music for "JANE DOE," while Utada will participate in the vocals. A new video has been released, showcasing the song's intro.
Yonezu commented, "I started writing this song without really thinking about who I wanted to have sing it, but as I worked on it, I felt that only Utada could sing it, so I just offered her the job. I remember the moment Utada's voice, which is melancholic yet blows through like the wind, came into this song and I was so moved that I took my breath away. As a person who creates music, I am very honored for this opportunity."
Utada said, "When I received the offer, I wasn't sure what would happen, but I really wanted to give it a try, so I decided to take on the challenge. As singer-songwriters who both pursue their own individuality, we understand each other better than anyone, and as we grope our way forward, confused by the contrasting aspects of our respective ways of expression, I hope that people will be able to see a new side of each of us emerge."
Yonezu's single "IRIS OUT/JANE DOE" will be released on September 24th.
The "Reze" arc will be the story of Reze and the main character, Denji, who also appeared at the end of the TV anime that aired from October to December 2022, and became a hot topic. While Denji is excited about a date with his crush, Makima, he takes shelter from the rain and meets Reze, a young girl who works at a cafe. The story is directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who was the action director for the TV anime, and produced by MAPPA.
" Chainsaw Man" is a dark hero action story about a boy named Denji who is possessed by a demon and works as a devil hunter. Part 1 was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from December 2018 to December 2020. Part 2 has been serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+" since July 2022.
