Actor Kenichi Matsuyama appeared at the opening day stage greeting for Disney & Pixar's new animated film "Elio," held in Tokyo on August 1st.
In keeping with the film's theme of "being yourself," the cast members announced what "being yourself" means to them. Matsuyama wrote "Do what you want to do, as much as you want to do" on a flip chart.
"When I get tired, I go to sleep, and if I want to do something, I can't get it out of my head. I won't feel satisfied until I do it. Once I've done it, it disappears from my mind and I can move on to the next thing. I'm not good at multitasking, so I think doing one thing at a time is what suits me best," she said.
When asked what she had done recently, she revealed, "We were all taking photos for social media (before the stage greeting). I was behind Ozora (Tasuku), and I felt like tickling him..." Ozora responded, "I don't want you to do that again," which caused the audience to erupt in laughter.
The event was also attended by voice actors for the Japanese version, Kawahara Eito, Nana Seino, Tasuku Sato, Noro Kayo, and Nakatani from the comedy duo Mayurika.
The protagonist of "Elio" is Elio, a boy who loves space and feels lonely after losing his parents, the people who understood him the most. Elio believes that somewhere in this vast world there must be a place where he "really belongs." His heartfelt wish is answered, and he is invited to the dreamlike "Comniverse," where representatives of the stars gather. There, he meets Grodon, an alien boy who is just as lonely. The two share a bond, but a threat that will shake the "world of the stars" approaches. The key to their salvation lies in a "certain promise" made between the two lonely people... This is the story.
The film will be directed by Madeline Sharafian, who served as story artist on "Coco" (2017), Domee Shi, who directed "Me and the Red Panda" (2022), and Adrian Molina, who wrote and co-directed "Coco."
