The music video for the new song "Mutekiteki Happiness!" has been released on YouTube as the first in a project to create a music video for a new song based on the popular light novel series "The Haruhi Suzumiya" by Nagaru Tanigawa, published by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko (KADOKAWA). The video features the SOS Brigade's Haruhi Suzumiya (played by Aya Hirano Hirano), Mikuru Asahina (played by Yumiko Goto), Yuki Nagato (played by Tomokazu Sugita), Kyon (played by Tomokazu Sugita), and Itsuki Koizumi (played by Daisuke Ono) singing and dancing.
The project will bring together the legendary creators behind hit songs such as "Hare Hare Yukai" and "God knows..." to create new songs. Haruhi Suzumiya will serve as the project's general director. Crowdfunding for the project was conducted from November to December 2024.
To commemorate the release of "Mutekiteki Happiness!", a short video of Haruhi dancing to the song was also released on YouTube. The second music video of the new song will be released on August 4th at 6pm, and the third music video will be released on August 11th at 6pm.
The "Suzumiya Haruhi" series tells the story of Haruhi Suzumiya, a high school girl who loves aliens, people from the future, psychics, and paranormal phenomena, and her friends Kyon, an ordinary high school boy, who get caught up in a series of strange events that occur one after another around them.
The first volume of the series, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," was published in 2003, and has sold over 20 million copies. An anime series was broadcast on TV in 2006 and 2009, and the movie version, "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya," was released in 2010.
