It has been announced that "Saitama Shakespeare Series 2nd Vol.2 'Macbeth'", which was performed at the Saitama Arts Theater (Chuo-ku, Saitama City) in May, will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 8:30 pm on September 6th.
The "Saitama Shakespeare Series" will begin in May 2024, with Kotaro Yoshida as artistic director. "Macbeth" is a much talked-about production, with Tatsuya Fujiwara playing Macbeth and Tao Tsuchiya playing Lady Macbeth, her first Shakespeare work. Yoshida, who directed and wrote the script, also appeared as one of the three witches.
◇Story
Macbeth (Tatsuya Fujiwara) and Banquo (Yamato Kawachi) meet three witches (Kotaro Yoshida and others) on the moor. The witches predict that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and king, and that Banquo's descendants will become kings. Lady Macbeth (Tao Tsuchiya), who learned of the prophecy in a letter from her husband, decides to help him achieve his ambition.
Eventually, Macbeth assassinates King Duncan (Takao Takao) and takes the throne, but before he knows it, he is tormented by pangs of conscience. Driven by anxiety and anger after receiving an ominous prophecy, Macbeth commits even more brutal acts. Lady Macbeth, who was supposed to be strong-willed, also suffers from guilt and visions of blood and falls into a state of confusion. Then, the armies of Macduff (Hirose Yusuke) and Malcolm (Inoue Yuki), who are burning with revenge against Macbeth, attack, and the absurd prophecy becomes reality...
