It has been announced that the second season of the TV anime Medalist, based on a figure skating manga that was also chosen as the top comic in the Next Manga Awards 2022, will be broadcast on TV Asahi's late-night anime slot NUMAnimation from January 2026. The second season is set in the Chubu region tournament, where participants compete for a place in the All Japan Championships, and a teaser visual and teaser PV have been released, depicting the united Inori standing on the skating rink. The visual is accompanied by the copy, "We will shine brighter than anyone else." Visuals of Inori and Akiura Michiji dressed in the new costumes for the second season have also been released.
A stage event for "Medalist" will be held on August 14th at the summer festival event "SUMMER FES" being held by TV Asahi at Roppongi Hills (Minato Ward, Tokyo). The event is a collaboration with the network's figure skating broadcast, and will feature appearances by Haruse Natsumi, who plays Yuzuki Inori, Takeo Otsuka, professional figure skater Suzuki Akiko, who will also be in charge of figure skating choreography for the second season, and Matsuoka Shuzo, who will be the main Caster for the Figure Skating Grand Prix Series/Final.
"Medalist" is a manga by Tsurumai Ikada that has been serialized in the manga magazine "Monthly Afternoon" (Kodansha) since 2020. The story is about a young man, Akiura Michiji, who has failed as a skater, who meets Yuzuki Inori, a girl who aspires to the world of figure skating, and aims to become a glorious medalist as both a coach and athlete.
