It has been announced that a new anime, "Cyborg 009 Nemesis," based on Shotaro Ishinomori's popular manga, "Cyborg 009," will be produced. The announcement was made on "Cyborg 009 Day," July 19, the 61st anniversary of the series' creation. More details will be announced in the future.
"Cyborg 009" is a manga that depicts 9 warriors, including Joe Shimamura, who have been turned into cyborgs by the evil organization Black Ghost, fighting for justice alongside Dr. Gilmore. The series began serialization in 1964 in "Weekly Shonen King" (Shonen Gahosha), and was also serialized in "Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) and "Monthly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), among others.
The story will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2024, the same year it was adapted for the stage for the first time and remade into a vertically-reading, full-color comic.
