The premiere event for the movie "TOKYO MER ~Running Emergency Room~ Nankai Mission" (directed by Aya Matsuki, to be released on August 1st), the sequel to the movie version of the TV drama "TOKYO MER~Running Emergency Room~" (2023) starring actor Ryohei Suzuki, was held on July 10th at Roppongi Hills (Minato Ward, Tokyo). A pink carpet was laid out at Roppongi Hills Arena, inspired by the hibiscus, the symbol of the new team "Nankai MER" that appears in this work, and the gorgeous cast including Meru Nukumi, Yosuke Eguchi, Nanao, Mahiro Takasugi, Emma Miyazawa Kento Kaku, Kento Kaku, Yuriko Ishida, and Director Matsuki appeared. There was a brief thunderstorm during the event, and Suzuki was concerned about the 630 people who had gathered, saying, "Please drink something warm when you get home."
At the event, the speakers gave their speeches as the sounds of thunder echoed through the venue. Suzuki said, "Every shoot was tough," and "There were days when it rained so much that it was incomparable to this," and the speakers also described the weather that day as "typical of MER."
The sequel to the movie, "Nankai Mission," is set in the vast ocean that straddles Okinawa and Kagoshima. Nankai MER is born, to travel around the islands floating in the ocean between Kagoshima and Okinawa, and TOKYO MER's chief doctor Kitami (Suzuki) and nurse Kuramae (Nanao) are seconded there. One day, a large-scale eruption occurs on a volcanic island, putting all 79 islanders in danger of losing their lives. The new MER members take on the biggest mission in history to save all lives... This is the story. The members of Nankai MER are played by Eguchi, Takasugi, Ikumi, and Miyazawa, and Kaku and Ishida will also appear, following on from the TV series and the first movie.
"TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room" is a full-scale medical drama about a new professional emergency medical team called "TOKYO MER" established by the governor of Tokyo. The serial drama was broadcast in the TBS "Sunday Theater" slot (Sunday 9:00 pm) in July 2021, and the average household viewership rating for the final episode was 19.5% (Kanto region, Video Research survey), which became a hot topic. The first movie version was released in April 2023 and was a hit, earning a box office revenue of approximately 4.53 billion yen.
