The decision was made to produce a sequel to the hit Disney live-action film "Lilo & Stitch" (directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp). The announcement was made in the United States on June 26th, "Stitch Day."
Stitch is the 626th prototype alien created by Dr. Jumba, a genius scientist of the Galactic Federation. June 26th is "Stitch Day," named after the prototype number.
The currently-showing film "Lilo & Stitch" is a live-action adaptation of the 2002 Disney animated film of the same name. Set on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, the fantasy depicts the important bond between "ohana (family)." A young girl named Lilo and her older sister Nani, who have lost their parents, are confronted by a rowdy alien named Stitch, who has never known the love of family. Stitch's unpredictable actions cause chaos on the peaceful island, but this miraculous encounter eventually changes the sisters, who had almost lost hope.
In the Japanese dubbed version, in addition to Yuzuno as Lilo, voice actor Koichi Yamadera plays Stitch, MOMONA from the 11-member girl group ME:I plays Nani, Kaito Nakamura from the popular group Travis Japan voices the kind-hearted surfer David, and voice actor Yuji Mitsuya voices the alien Preekly.
"Lilo & Stitch" was released in Japan on June 6th and got off to a better start than the opening record of "The Lion King: Mufasa," the highest grossing live-action foreign film of last year, and topped the list of audience numbers for two consecutive weeks. By June 25th, the film had grossed approximately 1.947 billion yen and had seen approximately 1.35 million people. The total box office revenue worldwide has now topped 910 million dollars (approximately 132.8 billion yen in Japanese yen) (according to Box Office Mojo, 1 dollar = 146 yen conversion, as of June 26th).
