On the 25th, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced that actor Yosuke Eguchi and model and actor Meru Nukumi have been appointed as election awareness image characters for the 27th Ordinary Election of the House of Councillors.
Regarding the reasons for the appointments, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications commented, "We hope that through Eguchi, who is popular with people of all ages, regardless of gender, and due to his friendly personality, and Ikumi, who is highly popular especially among the younger generation, this will help make elections more familiar to people and deepen their interest in politics."
Eguchi said, "I would be happy if as many people as possible could realize the importance of voting as a way to make their voices heard." Ikumi said, "I would like to think together with people of my generation about the meaning of participating in the election as a step that leads to our future."
