It has been announced that the second season of the "completely new anime" based on Rumiko Takahashi's hit manga "Ranma 1/2" will begin airing on Nippon Television from October. The series was broadcast as a TV anime from 1989 to 1992, and this will be the first time it has been adapted into a TV anime in about 32 years. The first season aired on the same station from October to December 2024. Additional cast members for the second season have also been announced, with Seki Toshihiko reprising his role as Moose. It has also been announced that Nazuka Kaori will play Kuonji Ukyo, Inoue Kazuhiko Happosai, Mayama Ako as Colon, and Akira Ishida as Gosunkugi Hikaru.
The announcement was made at the "Great Joy Anime Presentation" event held on June 22nd. At the event, which featured Kappei Yamaguchi, who plays Ranma, Megumi Hayashibara, who also plays Ranma, Noriko Hidaka, who plays Akane, and Rei Sakuma, who plays Shampoo, Seki, who plays Mousse, made an appearance as a secret guest.
The first trailer for the second season was also released. The trailer begins with Moose saying, "Akane Tendo... she's going to be the bait to lure Ranma out," and also features Kuonji Ukyo, Happosai, Colon, and Gosunkugi Hikaru. The staff for the second season was also announced, revealing that, following the first season, Konosuke Uda will be the director and MAPPA will be the producer.
Ranma 1/2 was serialized in the manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan) from 1987 to 1996 by Takahashi, who is also known for Urusei Yatsura Yatsura and Maison Maison Ikkoku. It depicts the hectic daily life of high school martial artist Ranma Saotome, who turns into a woman when splashed with water, and his Akane Tendo. While training in the indiscriminate fighting style with his father Genma, Ranma develops a unique constitution in China, where he trains in Jusenkyo, where he turns into a woman when splashed with water and reverts to a man when splashed with hot water. When Ranma returns to Japan, he and his son end up staying at the home of Genma's best friend Soun Tendo, and by chance he becomes engaged to Soun's daughter Akane.
