On June 20th, Friday Roadshow (Nippon TV, Friday 9pm) will be broadcasting the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible series starring Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning (US, 2018), for the first time on terrestrial television, uncut and with an 80-minute extension.
A Russian submarine equipped with a cutting-edge AI system is sunk by a direct hit from a torpedo fired by the submarine itself. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) of the IMF in Amsterdam receives a mission to find former MI6 agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) and retrieve the "key" that she has taken.
Ethan follows Ilsa to the Arabian desert and obtains the "key" from her. However, the "key" is capable of operating the advanced AI "Entity" that can obtain information from systems all over the world.
Learning that countries around the world are rushing to get the "key," Ethan enlists the help of his friends Benji (Simon Pegg) and Luther (Ving Rhames) to embark on a mission to neutralize the Entity. However, this means making enemies of not only the United States, but also those in power all over the world.
Next week on June 27th, Friday Roadshow will broadcast Hayao Miyazaki's first feature film, "Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro" (1979), uncut and with an extended 15 minutes.
