In episode 9... It turns out that Shindo's (Abe) scandal will be published in a weekly magazine, and it turns out that the photo was taken by Motohashi ( Shunsuke Michieda), but Motohashi did not tip him off. However, JBN Chairman Kunisada (Hideki Takahashi) suggests to Shindo that he should end his career as a Caster.
Shindo believes that Yamai's (Takuma Otoo) father, Kazuo (Manabu Yamamoto), was not killed in an accident, but was targeted for death, so he goes to Yamai's family home with him to search for evidence. Among Kazuo's personal belongings, he finds something that shows a connection with Shindo's father, Tetsu (Makiya Yamaguchi), as well as a note in his diary that says, "The three of us made a promise."
Shindo risks his life as a Caster to uncover the truth of what happened 43 years ago. Shindo heads to the restaurant to receive Kazuo's old photos, but Yamai, who is about to join him, is blown up and killed along with the restaurant by an unknown assailant.
Shindo then discovers that the incident is the result of Kageyama Heavy Industries' illegal diversion of radioactive rare earths. Shindo questions the chairman, Kageyama (Ishibashi Renji), but next to him is Takimoto (Kato Haruhiko) from the planning department, who had been by Kageyama's side until then. In fact, Takimoto had noticed the suspicious behavior of Kageyama's son-in-law, Ikeuchi (Matsuo Satoru), during his long relationship with Kageyama, and had informed Shindo.
Takimoto's unexpected action, which had previously put him at odds with Shindo and the others, led to a flood of applause from viewers on social media, with comments such as, "Takimoto! I'm sorry for doubting you!", "Takimoto fooled us," and "Takimoto hasn't given up his spirit of journalism."
