The eighth episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama " Caster " starring Hiroshi Abe (Sunday 9:00 pm) was broadcast on June 1st. Shindo (Abe), who delves into the events of 43 years ago, became a hot topic on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers
Yamai's (Takuma Otoo) father, Kazuo (Manabu Yamamoto), who suffers from dementia, has gone missing for a while. Shindo finds Kazuo's footprints in a cave, but Egami (Hajime Inoue), director of the Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Center, says that Kazuo was found in front of the center. Shindo takes action to find out the reason for Egami's "lie."
There was a door at the back of the cave, and it was locked with a combination lock. Shindo, who had found the password, opened the lock with Sakikubo ( Mei Nagano) and went further inside. However, Egami caught up with them and sternly warned them, "Please don't enter without permission!"
Shindo pointed out, "I really wanted to know. Why was Egami lying? Yamai's father, Kazuo, was here, right?" He continued, "I first came to this village when I was 13 years old, the year after the Self-Defense Force plane crashed. Since then, I've been here countless times. At least 100 times. So I thought I knew as much about this village as the locals. But I was mistaken. There's still a lot I don't know."
Afterwards, someone pushes Kazuo off the side of a mountain, but he somehow manages to survive.
Shindo visited Egami and explained his theory about Kazuo's accident.
"If it wasn't an accident, then the cause lies in that cave. This center was established 42 years ago. That was the year I first came here as a child. My father also came here the year before, 43 years ago, to cover the crash of a Self-Defense Force C-1 transport plane. When he returned from his coverage, he seemed different than usual. My father, who had been a kind man who had taught me the basics of reporting and journalism, had become a completely different person, depressed, and he took his own life without speaking a single word."
Furthermore, Shindo pointed out that the crash site was very close to the cave, and that "someone who thought it would be terrible if he (Kazuo) regained his memories from 43 years ago tried to kill him." Egami warned, "It's better not to go any further," but he was not very clear about it.
On social media, people were saying things like, "What connection does this fire and the accident 43 years ago have to Mr. Shindo and his son? Was it really Motohashi who sold Mr. Shindo's story? There were so many things that made me curious," "It was suspenseful to watch, and the story developed so quickly that I couldn't keep up," and "We're learning a lot about Mr. Shindo's past, and I'm excited to see what will happen next."
