It has been announced that an HD remaster of the TV anime "World Masterpiece Theater" series "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother" will be broadcast on the satellite channel Family Theater every Sunday from 6am starting June 1st. The film, directed by the late Takahata Isao, was originally broadcast on "World Masterpiece Theater" in 1976, and Hayao Miyazaki participated in creating the setting. The broadcast will mark the 50th anniversary of Nippon Animation's founding.
"3000 Leagues in Search of Mother" is based on Edmondo de Amicis' "Cuore." The story is about Marco, who sets out on a journey alone to find his mother who fell ill while working away from home, and overcomes the many hardships he encounters with the help of the people he meets along the way.
The film was produced by a reunion of staff members who worked on "Heidi, Girl of the Alps," which was well-received when it aired on the "World Masterpiece Theater" in 1974. At a time when overseas location shooting was rare for anime productions, the film was shot overseas in Italy and Argentina, following "Heidi, Girl of the Alps."
