Talent Kuniko Yamada appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on May 23rd. She talked about her memories of Masako Natsume, with whom she co-starred in a drama, and the Japan Comedy Association, of which she became president last year.
Yamada's debut was in a drama. Natsume, Sansaburo Ban, Ken Utsui, and Kuno Yamaoka were among the cast members. Among them, Natsume recalled, "I was beautiful." "I was also told I was cute in the Yamada family growing up, but I realized that I was called (to the drama) because I was 'funny,'" she said with a laugh.
Natsume told me that there were many staff members on the other side of the camera. "Because I was playing a nurse, I would be shown on screen, so I told them to wear something proper, and went shopping for underwear with me. They told me how to apply grease grease with my fingers, and how to apply it to the smallest details," she recalled.
Last year, he was appointed president of the Japan Comedy Association, which has been in existence for 70 years. "Masao Komatsu was the 10th president before me. Then, with the coronavirus, we were in limbo, so I think it was a hassle and the position was passed on to me," he said. The first president was Kenichi Enomoto. After that, Kingoro Yanagiya, Mitsuko Mori, Hisaya Morishige, and Norihei Miki have all served as president.
When asked how he became the president, he said, "It was just a conversation. I thought I would receive some documents, but when I appeared on a comedy show, some writers came to see me. I thought something was up, and then they called me out into the hallway and said, 'President. Since you're the president, please do something for me.'" Nothing has been decided yet, so he is currently reaching out to various places, saying, "Please, let me do something."
