The music program "The Greatest Hits," which will be broadcast on NHK General TV from 11:30 pm on May 24th, will feature the idol group "Morning Musume." The following week, on May 31st, the program will feature Hello! Project (Hello! Project), which includes Morning Musume.
Morning Musume '25's Makino Maria and Haga Akane will appear as the show's first studio guests on the May 24th episode of Morning Musume Special. Performance footage of Morning Musume from NHK's archives will be introduced. The comedy duo who will act as MCs for the show, New York, are from the generation that was directly affected by Morning Musume's rapid rise since their major debut in 1998, before current members Makino and Haga were even born. In the studio, the New York duo find themselves in a strange situation as they passionately talk to the current members about "just how amazing Morning Musume was."
Footage of former member Maki Goto's first appearance on Pop Jam in 1999 performing "LOVE Machine" is also shown, and Yashiki Hiromasa from New York talks about the shock he felt when Goto appeared.
The May 31st "Hello! Project Special" will feature Matsuura Aya's "LOVE Namidairo" (2001's "Pop Jam"), Fujimoto Miki's "Romantic Ukare Mode" (2002's "Pop Jam"), and "Taiyo to Ciscomoon's" "Gatamekira" (1999's "Pop Jam"). The two New Yorkers will talk about their memories from when they were elementary and middle school students, and by watching footage from that time, they will once again appreciate the amazingness of Hello! Project idols.
"The Greatest Hits" is a new 15-minute program that will feature footage of the best performances from music programs that NHK has aired this year, including "Let's Go Young," "Pop Jam," and "MUSIC JAPAN," focusing on Japanese pop from the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.
