Keiji Tagawa, known as a leading expert in bead embroidery, will be appearing on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 pm on May 14th.
Tagawa became friends with Kuroyanagi after appearing on the show as a leading expert in haute couture bead embroidery. As Kuroyanagi consulted with her about costumes for the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and "Tetsuko's Room Concert," she also began to ask him to manage her costumes. When Tagawa began sorting through the large number of costumes that Kuroyanagi had treasured for many years, he discovered a kimono that Kuroyanagi had been wearing in photographs that often appeared in the media as "photos of her long-sleeved kimono as a memory from her time studying abroad in New York."
Tagawa, who is a qualified curator, will introduce and explain the various exquisite items under the museum's care, including a suit jacket that Kuroyanagi had made by Mori Hanae, a dress with a puffy skirt reminiscent of her time at Rokumeikan, a dress made to order by Miyake Issey with multiple layers of layered fabric edges, and what at first glance looks like an ordinary white blouse but is actually an antique American blouse.
