It has been announced that the animated film "100 M.", based on the serialized debut work by Uoto , who is also known for " Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (Chi: Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite), " which was adapted into a TV anime, will be released on September 19th. It was also announced that actors Tori Matsuzaka and Sometani Shota will appear as voice actors and co-star in the film. "100 M." is a work based on track and field, with Matsuzaka playing Togashi, a "talented" runner who is naturally fast and has always found friends and a place to belong, and Sometani playing Komiya, a "hardworking" runner who becomes obsessed with the 100-meter sprint after meeting Togashi. This will be the first time Matsuzaka and Sometani have worked together in about 14 years since the 2011 film "Antoki no Inochi."
Matsuzaka said, "When I read the original work, I could feel the characters' breathing, the sound of them cutting through the wind, the sound of their feet running on the ground, their sweat, and their body temperature. It was my first experience of this kind. More than anything, I was moved by the conflicts and delicate emotional nuances of each player, and I couldn't stop turning the pages. I feel honored to be able to take part in the animated film of '100M.', but at the same time, I feel a tremendous amount of pressure. It's been 14 years since I last co-starred with Sometani-kun, and I was very happy. The Komiya played by Sometani-kun was just like Komiya. I hope that the sound, sweat, and body temperature that I felt from the original work are conveyed in this film. I hope you will look forward to it."
Someya said, "When I read Uoto-sensei's original work, I felt a sense of dynamism, as if I was cutting through the wind, and could hear the sound of someone running the 100-meter sprint, which is supposed to be inaudible. I was attracted to the idea that if that could be turned into animation, it would definitely make an interesting work. Komiya has a human quality to him, in that he gets so carried away that he loses track of his limits, which resonates with me personally. I tried to act carefully so that the audience would be able to take a breather as well."
A teaser visual featuring Togashi and Komiya has been released. It shows Togashi looking straight ahead, while Komiya, clad in racing clothes, looks down at his feet, and expresses the quiet yet passionate fighting spirit of the two, who could be described as both rivals and best friends. A trailer was also released on YouTube, depicting Togashi and Komiya as they continue to run, growing from elementary school students to high school students and working adults. It also shows Togashi confidently saying, "I'll win today too," to which Komiya mutters, "Yeah, do your best."
"100m." was serialized on Kodansha's web manga app "Magazine Pocket" from 2018 to 2019. It depicts the madness and passion of those who are fascinated by the brilliance of the 100m, a flash of light that lasts less than 10 seconds in the world of track and field. Togashi, who is naturally fast and has made friends and found a place to belong, meets Komiya, a transfer student who simply runs as hard as he can to forget his harsh reality. Gradually, the two develop a relationship that can be described as both rivals and best friends through the 100-meter race. A few years later, Komiya, who has become one of the top runners, appears before Togashi, who is known as a genius runner but is terrified of the fear of having to keep winning... This is the story.
The anime will be directed by Kenji Iwaizawa, who was nominated for an Annie Award for his work on "Music," and will be produced by Rock 'n' Roll Mountain, the studio behind "Music."
