A new promotional video for "Mononoke: The Movie - Chapter 3: Serpent God," the third and final chapter of the "Mononoke: The Movie" trilogy, a brand-new theatrical film series based on the popular TV anime "Mononoke ," has been released on YouTube. Titled "Special Trailer - Chapter of the Occult," the video highlights the unique horrors of " Mononoke " scattered throughout all three chapters, including the unsettling feeling lurking beneath a glamorous world, the ominous atmosphere creeping into enclosed spaces, and the chilling terror of Mononoke born from human emotions attacking.
Chapter 1, "The Umbrella," focuses on new maids forced to abandon their individuality and conform to the rules of the group. Chapter 2, "The Fire Rat," focuses on the intrigues and conflicts between families vying for the succession to the emperor, depicting the suffering of the ladies-in-waiting caught in the middle of the struggle. Chapter 3, "The Serpent God," focuses on Sachiko, the highest-ranking woman in the Ooku (women's quarters of the Edo Castle). The PV includes new cuts, such as a medicine seller wielding a demon-slaying sword in Sachiko's room, creating a tense atmosphere and raising expectations for how the story of the Ooku, depicted in Chapters 1 and 2, will conclude in "The Serpent God."
" Mononoke: The Movie" is set in the Ooku (women's quarters of Edo Castle), a place swirling with the passions of women, and follows a medicine seller as he tries to uncover the true identity of the "Mononoke." The first chapter, "Karakasa," was released in July 2024, and the second chapter, "Hinezumi," was released in March 2025. The third chapter, "Hebigami," will be released on May 29th.
"Mononoke" is an anime produced by the same staff who worked on the popular episode "Bakeneko" from "Ayakashi," which aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina anime block in 2006. It aired on Noitamina in 2007. The story depicts a supernatural tale in which the medicine seller who appeared in "Bakeneko" confronts a Mononoke.
