The initial results of the Sanrio Character Rankings 2025, a popularity poll for Sanrio characters, were announced on April 15th, with Pompompurin, who placed 4th last year, coming in 1st. Cinnamoroll, who won five consecutive times last year, came in 2nd, followed by Pochacco(2nd last year) in 3rd place, with Sanrio's three biggest "dog characters" dominating the top spots. In 4th place was Kuromi (3rd last year), and in 5th place was Hello Kitty (5th last year). My Melody (6th last year), who celebrates her 50th anniversary this year, also made it into the top 10, along with Little Twin Stars (10th last year) in 9th place. Hanamaru Obake (14th last year), which is making its second appearance this year, started off in 8th place.
The Sanrio Character Awards is a public voting project for Sanrio characters that began in 1986. Last year, the total number of votes exceeded 57.07 million, the highest ever. This year marks the 40th anniversary, and the theme is "Jump to the future with you!", with 90 characters entered. Voting will begin on April 10th and will continue until May 25th. Intermediate results will be announced on May 13th, and the final results on June 29th.
