The first episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Caster" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Hiroshi Abe, was broadcast on April 13th, and got off to a good start with an average viewership rating (according to Video Research, Kanto region, same below) of 14.2% for households and 8.7% for individuals.
The drama is a social entertainment set in a TV news program, where the truth buried in the darkness is pursued and evil is punished. Abe plays the unconventional newscaster Soichi Shindo, Nagano Mei plays the general director Hana Mei Nagano, who struggles despite being pushed around by Shindo, and Shunsuke Michieda of "Naniwa Danshi" plays Yusuke Motohashi, a rookie assistant director aspiring to be a journalist who respects Shindo.
In the first episode, Shindo Soichi is appointed as the new anchor of the commercial TV station JBN's evening news program "Newsgate." Although it is a flagship program with a 40-year history, in recent years its viewership ratings have been sluggish. In an attempt to turn things around, JBN's Chairman Kunisada Sadao (Takahashi Hideki) recruits him from the public broadcasting station.
