It has been revealed that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, the pre-release theatrical version of the latest work in the popular anime Gundam series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX, has grossed over 3 billion yen in 49 days since its release on January 17th. The film has been a hit, attracting over 1.8 million viewers. This surpasses the box office gross of approximately 2.3 billion yen recorded by Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, released in 1982, making it the second highest grossing theatrical film in the Gundam series. The highest grossing theatrical film in the series was Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, released in January 2024, which grossed approximately 5 billion yen.
Director Tsurumaki Kazuya commented, "Thank you for the box office revenue of 3 billion yen and the audience of over 1.8 million people. Since we were making this film right up until the release, we weren't able to do enough advance promotion. Even after the release, there were some difficult parts to talk about it because of concerns about spoilers, but thanks to everyone, the film has spread mainly on social media, and I have received reports that it is being watched by a new generation along with the generation that watched 'Mobile Suit Gundam,' which makes me very happy.
